When I signed up to attend University of Phoenix I was advised to apply for federal assistance. I applied and when I entered the classroom on the first day of class I signed in and was called to the front of the class by the professor who gave me a letter stating that no classwork would be accepted from me. A paper was due on the first day of class which I had done. I was told to report to the business office.

There I was told to call or return the following day and was escorted out of the building by security. I was treated like a criminal.

I called the following day and was told I didn't qualify for federal assistance and I would need to pay. That would not have been a problem.and they did not need to go to such extremes. Because I had signed into the class they felt it proper to charge me for the class I was not allowed to attend.

Be forewarned University of Phoenix is a major rip off!! Be very careful attending this so called piggy bank of higher learning. They have purchased a football stadium and have a vested interest in seeing themselves prosper in their money making efforts despite the havoc they wreck on students educational goals.

I have been attending college with UoP since June 2009. I started classes 2 weeks after giving birth via emergency c-section. I am a military spouse and I have to say I have not had the nightmare of problems that the other students I have read about on this website and many others have had. I have been in school now for almost 2 years, transferred from Axia to UoP after it was discovered I had a great deal of transfer credits and would be better off to pursue a BA. I have had one amazing admissions counselor, 2 different academic advisers (one left for personal reasons), and the same finance counselor since I started.

I have had once class where the learning team was a problem, but that was quickly rectified. I have had a couple of small issues with the financial aid department but my counselor stays in close contact with me and my issues are addressed in a timely and professional manner.

The course work is demanding, but I expect it to be. I am not trying to buy my degree, I want to earn it.

While it is clear there are some who have had issues not everyone does.

i have read other blogs on UOP one girl said her interviewer luaghed at her degree. another said the his company was no longer accepting any UoP degrees because of accreditation.

i would advise anyone to look deeply at this school before giving them any money. oh i had a friend who was an instructor, she knew very little

about the subject, was just in it for the money

I am glad I am in a position to spread the word about U of Phx foul practices. I feel I am 'paying it forward' when I discourage potential students from attending this money making excuse for an instritute of higher learning.

When I hear perspective students discussing U. of Phx I immediately join the conversation and share my distasteful experiences.

If I have saved one person from the unethical tactics this business. I feel I have done a good job. I think I am doing a great job as I have saved so many in such a short period of time and hope I can quadruple my efforts in the coming months and years.

NAU and U of A are superior in terms of providing quality education within the confines of ethical moral and considerate behavior.

You should contact the military who should be concerned about how University of Phx. is dishonoring our Vets. Thank you for your service.

look I have gone to three different schools in my area and they were all after the same thing... Money. The teachers did not care if I failed, they gave me the work and said go to it.

UoP is the same as any school I have gone too, just with longer class blocks and more demanding home work... Seriously One class my team and I had a 40 page paper due plus a five page paper each week during the time period. It was a hard class... some where easier then others but all were of about the same caliber as any of the other schools I have gone to...

Regardless of what anyone else tells you it is not the school that matters but the effort you put into it. An education is the time and effort used in creating knowledge, UoP is expensive for the name right now... But as more and more people start to make money and can point back to UoP as the reason why I think their reputation, just like anyone else will go up over time...

Also no system is perfect. I am sure if you look hard enough you will find many people who have been abused by many colleges... Mistakes happen.

Look I have a cousin who went to Harvard and the main reason those schools are prestigious is because they pick and choose who gets in... They have no desire to educate the masses because that would mean allowing people of perhaps lesser desire/fortune in.

That is what it really takes to get an education anyway. Desire. A thirst for knowledge. I mean technically a Doctorate simply means you want to keep studying and you have a good solid base lol.

Go after anyone who wrongs you but do it with an attitude that perhaps they didn't mean to wrong you is all I can say for those who are pissed.

To Niner: How much were you paid to write for the Uof P? You are probably a member of their admission arm twistering team.

If you read my comment it wasn't about the degree of work one is asked to do or to dis the profs it was strictly regarding the Uof P's preoccupation with getting their money, making false promises, and their disrespect /maltreatment of the student.

But you didn't understand that because your rebuttal was completedly unrelated.

And so you say you got A's at Uof P ehh.. very impressive..and how much did they cost you?

After reading multiple U of P stories on this site I am amazed at how many people in this world just don't understand college and what it takes to go to class and graduate. The whole U of P process as with any University is about sacrifice, as a student you will be writing long papers, meeting with learning teams and dealing with getting online 4-5 times a week. Most students are unable to do this, that is why U of P's graduation rate is only about 9%.

The reality is that most people are not competant enough to handle this type of academic endeavor and soon give up and quit. Most students will stop attending school during the *** out courses such as College Algebra and later Satistics.

The reason for so many academic "issues" with U of P is that most students admitted have no real business being in college. Admission is not tough and many students, especially ones who have been out of High School for 10 years or so fall flat on their face after a few courses because they are not used to going to school anymore and have a hard time alotting the necessary time to study.

I graduated from the University of Phoenix with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management in Fall 08. My first 60 hours were taken at UNT and my latter 60 at U of P.

During those last 60 hours most of the students were within 1 to 2 yrs of graduating and were serious about their academic progress. Unfortunately, there was always a knucklehead upon occasion who could not pay their internet/phone bill etc.. bill and caused the rest of the learning team grief.

If you decide to go to U of P expect to work your tail off writing papers, researching and working in a learning team. If you are not a good student attend junior college first to test the water and take a night class to get you back in the rhythym of college.

Do not leap into U of P hap hazardly, I have had Harvard, MIT and multiple other prestigous PHD degree holding Professors at U of P. They will eat your lunch if you cannot handle the workload or understand the academic material which in turn causes many to drop out.

Once you drop out of ANY university, the Federal Government expects you to start paying back your financial aid after a six month grace period.

The bottom line is that as a potential student you need to evaluate what is the best course of action to take, getting a degree at U of P is tedious and expensive. If you can plan your day right and do what it takes toget your studies finished you will probably graduate, if not you will be reporting to someone at work who already has.

After extensive conversations with admissions folks I was given educational cost figures that so soon as I registered, doubled, leaving me in a situation where full time employment was required while going through a very demanding educational program.

I was very thorough with them and these figures so that I COULD attend and not have to work at the same time. I have a family at home with high maintenance needs as well.

They flat out lied, and now I feel trapped.

This is not academic whining. I've been a straight A student for a long time, and am still pulling straight A's. This is about deception.

I WILL be contacting the state attorney generals office in my state and theirs.

I'm in a bind because of them.

I have no problems with the classroom materials. They are excellent.

Were they honest about costs and I was free to concentrate on my education as they clearly led me to believe, everything would be fine.

Double, mind you, double the tuition and fees they promised me.

I am currently attending University of Phoenix Online. I have really enjoyed it, I have went to traditional schools and have also done thier online programs and U of P is by far the best.

As for the other garbage being spouted here, schools don't care about you period, however, U of P cares more simply because if I leave, they don't make money off me. That is more than I can say for a traditional university whom could care less if I get into school, or finish.

The Business Oriented aspect of U of P makes them put forth more effort to keep you in school and doing good vs. a traditional school who simply does not care.

I have completed my undergrad work with UOP and currently completing my MBA with University of Phoenix. The school is expensive, however, the education is great. Yes, they have invested in placing the schools name on a stadium, SO WHAT! Remember all schools are about making money. Look at these other big schools that pay their football coach serveral miillions a year, and the professors are making peanuts.

You can go to Harvard University and pay twice the amount a University of Phoenix student pays. YOU are paying for the NAME on your diploma. Does it man you will get a job, NO. Will you be in debt paying back student loan to Harvard? YES.

All these private and public schools are getting filthy rich, so if you go to a school because you want them to love you, forget it. You are a number on their books, you're revenue!

Never forget that.

You can go to Harvard and pay twice the amount a University of Phoenix student pays for education, however, at the end of the day, you have paid $200,000 to a school that really doesn't give a *** about you as an individual. It's the same with UOP, they don't give a *** about you as an individual, however, I feel the same about them. I am there for education, not to get hugs and kisses.

We all have choices, so remember that your education is an option. Spend your money at the school that has the smallest board room members that need the smallest salary.

Agreed. These people are ***.

I took one class with them. I had my GI Bill. They are supposed to take care of that (so they say) and never did. They still want $1300 from me.

They aren't getting it. Call and whine to me til the day I die.

I don't care. :(
