About to graduate, some issues with disbursement of funds, other than that, not too bad..

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I am about to graduate with UoP online Bachelor in Science degree with a major in Criminal Justice with a minor in Humanities. I have read almost all the complaints on here with this university. I can see the scenarios happening, however, as a long-term student, you cannot cancel your classes half-way through and expect no consequences, you cannot expect your advisers (academic or financial aid adviser) to do all the work for every student every time, 365 days days of the year, you have to follow through and make sure they are doing their job and you are getting the money you awarded locally, regionally, or nationally through the federal government (cross your t's, dot your i's, and read the FINE print, know what you are getting, and what you signing up for), and most certainly you have to do the work. A lot of people do not end up going through with or end up failing or quitting online university's because they do not put in the effort. This university holds you 100% accountable for your grades and the effort you put in. You cannot expect to make an "A," if you slack off, do not participate in classroom discussions, and do not adhere to assignment guideline or turn in assignments late. You get what you put in. This university is harder and more complex than a lot of local community colleges. I know this university is more expensive than others, but so are a lot of others out there, such as Kaplan, Liberty, etc. I choose this out of convenience, and it ended up working out really good for me. I graduate next February with my Bachelor's degree, a degree I have worked very, very hard for (I also have my associates through my local community college- it was cheaper this way, it also helped I payed down my interest on my loans while in school, to decrease the loan amounts I had to take out, in addition, I also used Pell grants and scholarships to pay my way). I have not been paid by anyone to endorse this university or the experience I had. Everyone can make up their mind, but I had a good experience with this college, but I also worked very, very hard, stayed on top of my financial aid, regularly contacted my academic adviser with my classes, regularly contacted my financial aid adviser making sure everything went smoothly, and most of all, worked very hard in all of my classes. Do your research and keep an open mind, you never know what you will find.

University of Phoenix -- Want your Money back? plus ++

University of Phoenix is a rip off because of the low educational level, expensive tuition rates, and worthless Degrees.

The University of Phoenix Academic Advisors, Academic Counselors and Financial Aid Advisors are a big liars because they don't let you know everything you need to know about tuition, reimbursements, pre-requisites etc.

They hide the important information, and try to make you sign up for loans. These employees are there just to make money on you.
I took 13 of the 20 classes needed for a Bachelors Degree in Business(60 Credits), but I had to quit the program because the student loan was adding up too fast at $1650 per class.

Now in June 2013, 4 years later I enrolled again in the University of Phoenix in order to try to finish the 7 classes that I have left.

The Academic Counselor said I still have to take 14 classes.... (not the previous 7 needed!) in order to graduate because they "upgraded the Program twice".

In 2008, I was needing 7 classes in order to graduate, but now in 2013 I need 14! $21,840 dollars! plus $20,280 already spent! The Academic Counselor avoided telling me how many classes I do still need to take and tried to convince me to sign up for more student loans.

The cost of these 13 classes were $20,280 dollars. at $1560 per class and perhaps many more students lost money too.

If you feel that you were ripped off by spending thousands of dollars without finishing your degree or by having a worthless degree please join us on this Lawsuit.

I have looked and read many of the posts on here about how people had different experiences with the university of Phoenix. While I enjoyed going there because I liked the work and the people but even though I have two degrees from there and no job in sight I didn't blame the school, I figured that it was my fault.

I had no direction and I thought that the school would give me some because I didn't want a job, a wanted a career. Something that I could be proud of and love but that didn't happen. Mostly because by the time that I was done, I had diabetes type two and gout both which made it nearly impossible to work because I'm always in pain and now it's hard to exist.I'm still worried about paying for the student loans though, any help there

Guest

The crux of your problem is that you quit. I graduated from the University of Phoenix with an MBA and an Ed.D.

I currently work for the State University of New York. So, it seems that SUNY and the State of New York recognize that the University of Phoenix offers rigorous educational classes and is accredited.

I'm sure your problems is more about who you are then the UofP.

Guest

The story is always the same. Some loser wants to blame the university for their own failures. Grow up!

Guest

Is this still going on I haven't heard anything I graduated in 2009 I went from 2007-****.

Add me johhnyh52012@***.com I was told all credits I pyscho!igy would go towards certification.....that was a lie I dropped out after finding out !y degree was worthless and most employers won't even accept it as a real education

It interesting that you blame the university for your inability to obtain employment. I'll bet your lack of employment is more about who you are rather than the school you attended.

The University of Phoenix offers rigorous academic standards, which I'm guessing were too difficult for you.

I'm not surprised you dropped out. You are a loser who likes to blame your problems on others.

Dr. Larry Austin, Do not sit and call someone a loser when you clearly know nothing about them.

I did not drop out and finished my degree on on the Dean's list and the Presidents list with a bachelor in criminal justice admin. I am far from a loser but guess what, that degree was useless. I tried relentlessly to get a job in probation only to be turned down because the UOP degree was not accepted. I get up everyday and I go to work, pay my bills but never have I got one foot in the door in my field.

Now I have 56,000 dollars worth of student loans for nothing! It's easy for you to sit behind your computer screen and call people names doctor, while we are all throwing out judgement, maybe the weren't fed with a silver spoon like yourself.

My husband and I graduated from UOP and it sucks. We are both in debt and I cannot find a job to save my life.

The majority of the employers I have had interviews with in the past say they do not recognize the school as a reputable college and because of that would not hire me. The ones that didn't say anything about the college just gave me some BS excuse of why they didn't hire me. Also, after I graduated they told me they would help me find a job with the work assistance program they had but, that was a bunch of BS to.

Their so called work assistance program was nothing but a mock up of Monster careers. It's all a sham and we shouldn't have to pay our student loans for something that isn't credible.

I would like to see you offer one single credible shred of evidence that proves that the University of Phoenix is as you assert. It might be helpful if you include information about how the University of Phoenix is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.

The Higher Learning Commission is also recognized by the federal government.

I too had difficulties getting interviews; however, I do not attribute any of this to the university. Rather, it all just may be the time we live in.

Guest

I too have the same complaints and did not finish because the raise in tuition was too extreme. ended in debt with no more relief in sight than when I signed up for the program.

There are so many negative reviews but i dont understand because i have had nothing but a positive experience. The advisors have been a great help! The instructors are highly educated and work one on one with their students with all kinds of helpful advice. The resources are amazing and the way they teach with fun interactive tools is awesome. I would recommend this college to everyone.

I Felt pressured to sign. After i signed up every year there was always an add on per semester class if you as a student took time off for any personal reason per unit requirement

I was on a scholarship full ride and I still somehow have a bill in the thousands of dollars with University of Phoenix. My scholarship was a 10,500 dollar per yr. semester from my undergraduate studies coming into the institution! To this day I owe the University of Phoenix Thousands of dollars Plus interest. When I had federal aid that match Scholarship program funding studies. It was the Cal grant (A) California Student Aid of Commissions Scholarship Ride Academic funding Scholarship full funding for any undergraduate studies program studies of my choice. My total after graduating is over $30,000 to $40,000 dollars maybe $50,000 dollars All for what even though i have Scholarship, Plus award aids given to pay for my classes which I did but still got thousands in repayment bill to University of Phoenix.

University Of Phoenix - Program Review from East Prairie, Missouri

I attended UOF from 2006-****. I earned my Associate degree, or so I thought? My account was up to date and I repeatedly requested my diploma be mailed to me. I immediately transitioned into the Bachelor's degree program but due to unforseen circumstances I had to abruptly stop taking those courses. It was my hope to be able to complete my online degree but unfortunately, the UNIVERSITY OF PHOENIX gave me the run around after they failed to explain the "hidden" costs of the program. Nothing was explained to me in terms of completing the program or the stipulations of such. Needless to say, almost 7 years later, despite my numerous attempts, I have yet to receive my diploma for completing my Associates Degree. I have paid back nearly $24,000 on a degree that I don't have. The original amount of my loan was only 20k. The loan was sent to collections and now I'm being told I owe another 12k in interest. This school is a rip off!

University Of Phoenix - Grades Review from Tenino, Washington

Still working on my bachelor's in psychology, not currently attending at this time. I worked my way up walked for my associate in psychology. I continued on non stop and my grades started to slip when I told my advisor, it was like well you have too keep going. So I failed the course, again expressed my worries about continuing, but I was pushed, and instead of retaking the course I failed, I was put into my next course, betcha can guess, yes I failed that one too. Now I am still fighting with them over what I think I should have to do over but it's a complete runaround. I feel like I was only helped or a concern when I was keeping a high gpa, but no help when I needed it. Count me in shanoa20@***.com

Defending my UOPX Education

I am surprised at the number of complaints with their experience at the UOPX. I believe some are genuine complaints of customer service failures regarding financial aid loan disbursements, personality mismatch between students and facilitators, and post graduate job placement. It also appears many are disgruntled students who thought they were going to do little work and reap a big reward (a degree). Instead, they discovered they had to do actual work to earn a degree and failed. My experience and observations are: UOPX is regionally accredited, which means that the education I received at this school is as comparable to the traditional colleges and universities in my state. The regionally accredited status allowed the college to obtain government funding, which helped me pay for my education through loans and grants. This option along with my employee tuition assistant program was a viable solution for me paying for college education. I attended the UOPX for convenience not prestige. I was not deterred from getting an education because of the school’s reputation. I was well aware of some online for-profit and traditional colleges were under investigation because of staff recruiting practices, problems with financial aid and higher costs per credit hours; however, I believe individuals can obtain a quality education through an online program despite the numerous and outspoken criticism against for-profit higher learning institutions . Apparently, so does my employer because it paid for half the cost of my program. Many state that many employers do not recognize UOPX as a legitimate college; however, this sentiment includes all for- profit online institutions. This will change as online education gain wide acceptance, because distant learning is the future. As with any college or university, some credits may not transfer to other institutions; regardless the route (online or campus-based programs). UOPX is regionally accredited, so most traditional regionally accredited graduates schools I am researching recognizes my degree. I am a Phoenix and proud of it. I take pride in my accomplishment of graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration and Minor in Health Management. If it were not for online programs, I am confident that I would not have the degree. I completed an associate’s degree through a traditional campus-based community college program. I chose to return later to further my education with an online bachelors program. UOPX was by no means easy, which in my opinion discredits the notion of the university as a “diploma mill.” Diploma mills do not require the level of dedication, determination, and commitment to successfully fulfill the curriculum requirements to earn a degree as the UOPX does. First, diploma mills are not accredited or recognized by the Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation, but UOPX is. Noteworthy, UOPX was the first online university to receive the fully accredited accomplishment and has since grown to be one the largest online universities. UOPX was a pioneer for other online universities, many of which have modeled their online platform based on UOPX mission and ingenuity. Second, UOPX is a career school conceived to help working adults obtain a higher education leading to a degree in their current industry. Key words are working adults looking for career advance involving raises or promotions that depend on obtaining a higher education or degree in the industry. UOPX online education is not suitable for everyone (e.g. recent high school graduates, career changers without a previous degree or relative work experience in their fields of study). Individuals who start the program and lack the aforementioned prerequisites or were under the impression that online learning is easy will not do well. Many will become frustrated and drop out after thousands of dollars of student loan debit but no degree for their efforts. This leads to negative reviews by hundreds of disgruntled students proclaiming the school is a diploma mill because of their individual short-comings. Last, many individuals become unhinged when you mention graduating from a for-profit school versus a non-profit school. First, every college needs to make a profit. If not, their programs would be free. Bills have to be paid to keep the doors open (technology, learning materials, facility expenses, faculty pay, etc.), so without earning a profit, these things cannot occur. As I see it, non-profit schools place student learning and their curriculum above profit earning. The benefit goes to the students. However, for- profit schools priority is profit earnings, which can place students at more of a disadvantage than non-profit school. This alone does not indicate students cannot get a quality education from online or traditional for- profit school as critics would have you believe. It’s not that black and white because with any school, you will get out of it what you put into it. For profit schools like UOPX tuition is more expensive than non-profit schools and their admission criteria is more relaxed (anyone with a high school diploma or GED and can afford the cost via out-of-pocket or successfully secure financial aid or student loans are accepted). Non-profit schools have stricter admission criteria (exceptional SAT scores and/or a satisfactory grade on college placement tests in math, writing, or English). I concede that numerous advantages exist for attending a non-profit school, but for working adults looking for career advancement, I would not discredit for-profit online schools. If you are seeking a degree in a field of study that you have years of experience, the degree can lead to very successful careers. Again, the degree alone will not make the career but what a graduate does after getting the degree matters most. Just remember to keep things in perspective. Graduates from traditional schools are having problems finding work in the current economy. Finding work does not solely hinge on which school one graduates from. Several determinants of successfully landing a job post- graduation includes an applicant’s efforts, an applicant’s work experience, the degree's marketability, networking, geographic location, and of course, the economy.

As I see it, non-profit schools place student learning and their curriculum above profit earning.

....ummm...!?!?! Yes, anyone paying thousands of dollars on education shouldtruthfully invest that money in a school with this concept.

Your review sounds like an admissions rep, but I believe youre just a person who's already invested in this school(financially of course) & you may as well finish. I can see your points, but every one has a smarter, wiser alternative educationally besides this school and the tactics they use.

Especially with the cost and numerous student complaints about "sudden costs" around graduation time, its truthfully not worth it. If youve put your faith into this school that will not happen to you --- hope and pray i suppose.

Thats your opinion everyone has one. They full of it now thats my opinion.

University of Phoenix destroyed my life

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I want to be part of this lawsuit because University of Phoenix is a fraud that destroyed my dreams and my life. Since the moment I enrolled in the Human Services Program of the University of Phoenix I was tricked by the staff because the enrollment counselor never mentioned that the school program was about to be redesigned and because of that it was impossible finish with the program.

As a result, when I was only a year in process of my education the school redesigned the program and and all the new classes were different and as a consequence of that big change, it was impossible to finish the program because they didn't offer the classes that I needed on campus and the few classes that they offered were incomplete, very limited, more expensive & online, and it was not the deal. I signed On campus program, not online. The only way to continue there, was by restarting the program because all the classes they offered me weren't valid anymore. University of Phoenix did not want to validate them.

When i tried to get ahold of the director of the school it was impossible and they lied to me. Every time I called the employes were pretending that they were the Director, and when I realized that they were lying they told me that the Director was not there at the moment, and I was never lucky to speak with him. Then I decided make an appointment to meet him in person, but unfortunately when I went to the appointment another employee was pretending to be the Director of the school one more time, and that happened 4 times and I never could meet the Director and nobody of the personal gave the information to contact him, not even his name.

telling me the person I just talked to was the director of the school. University of Phoenix never helped me to resolve this problem and the school is charging me more that they suppose to and I can not have my documents until I paid them almost $1000 more.Today, I have no education, no money, no job, and huge loan to pay plus a big stress and headaches that I cannot even sleep during the night.

I also had a very similar issue with University of Phoenix. I attended one class and passed it just fine. The reason I started taking classes with them was because I lost my job and I wanted to better myself. I found a job a little bit into my first class. A week after I took the job I they offered to send me out of town for 6 weeks to help in another area. The money was double what I was making. After just losing my job I would have been am *** to not take the position. I called and emailed the school numerous times telling them I was going to be gone and I would continue classes when I got back. Meanwhile I got a bill in the mail saying I owed around 3 grand. I'm now paying that off 250.00 a month. Since I've been back from that job I haven't been able to get ahold of anybody at the school regarding this matter. Nobody will return my phone calls or emails and now I'm stuck paying the bill. I would like help with this matter if anyone can give me any insight. It's truly a bunch of bull. Thanks very much.

University Of Phoenix - Associates Degree Review from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

For more than two years i have been studying for my associates degree in Business through the university of Phoenix and l can truthfully say that I have not learned anything related to an associates degree in Business. The school website never works and when it does, it takes me about 1 hour to get onto the classroom environment. Not sure if anyone is experiencing these issues but the school needs to shut down and unaccredited because they defrauded me out of $ 1275.00 for a critical thinking class that I still flunked and that was the 3rd time to take the class. I have already written a letter to the president of the university of Phoenix and haven't heard back from him. I have an academic advisor who is not working with me at all. They have technical support at the college and they refuse to fix the problems with the school website. Pearson education is part of the curriculum and I have not learned anything related to my degree.

Lack of Communication at Phoenix

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
On more than one occasion, I had technical difficulties. I notified tech services who at first could not fix the problem. They forwarded the issue to another section of tech services. However, they were so full of complaints and problems they were to call back. Never got a call from them. A second issue arose, and they called an untimely week later. The academic ad visor is a joke. I tried for five weeks, the entire length of a class to reach mine by calls and emails. Never got a reply until I used different resources and staff to get the information needed. Finally the adviser called back but it was too late. She wanted to reschedule to a day and time she set, never called again. The technology glitched too often and assignments were submitted but appeared in different weeks. When notified, a teacher said they would regrade it due to the glitch, never happened. My grade suffered thanks to this. Doing the work and getting zeros for it is not right. The admissions adviser was pleasant and always called back or was available. Why can't the rest of their staff be this way!?! Long story short, I withdrew. The classes are not worth the headache or the bills to get nothing out of it and just pull your hair out.
