Academic probation

On 4/07/2013 i logged in on university of phoenix online classroom, i had an academic probation letter, that said i have been put on academic probation as of 03/31/2013, now i didn't have any grades as of that date so why would i be put on academic probation before they get my actual grades. my grade didn't come out untill 04/02/2013 so my other grade just came out today and it was an F and i am wondering why she game me an F cause she wrote the instructors comments and i didn't get any bad feedback from her but in the last comment she called me another student's name, so i am confused is to why i got this letter for academic probation, cause the instructor clearly has me mixed up with another student, and now i can't get my financial aid after all this time of waiting.

i am very upset behind this, and i can't believe this school's nerve.

they also didn't tell me that i'm suppose to do a year of pre-recks before i can graduate i started in the summer of 2010 and my degree program is only suppose to be for 2 years, so now i am more confused, cause they got me owing $20,000 dollars in student loans, how am i gonna pay all that back. help help me please.

Breach of Contract

Well, I had started in Oct. of 2008 at the University of Phoenix, Axia College to pursue my degree in Accounting. Before I signed up, I even told them I am disabled and if they have any programs that help pay the tuition which I was informed of from various doctors and my parents that I had qualified for this. They informed me no, they do not.

The enrollment adviser then proceeded to tell me that total cost for the ENTIRE two years, costed $8,300. Cheap I thought, but since I was attending online, I figured that is why. Well I began on Oct. 6, 2008 and I had a lot of general classes, not beginning my accounting classes until a year and a half later.

Three weeks into my classes, I learned I did not qualify for any financial aid and the entire schooling cost $24,000?? I was furious. But what else was I supposed to do, I either had to go to school or lose my health insurance through my dad.

I never got an explanation on why my sister who used the same income on her FAFSA got $2,100 and I used the same income, got nothing.

It wasn't until Feb. of 2011 that I had learned I qualified for my schooling to be paid for through the MN workforce center, and was told then to get a lawyer because the school did in fact know about my disability and if I was referred to their Disability office, they could have told me about the Vocational Rehabilitation Center and I would not be in $18,000 in student loan debt.

I have all my paper work from the school, along with the numerous letters that my then lawyer sent them, with no response.

Now with the school not budging what so ever, the lawyer dropped my case, I've gone through the BBB and no avail. Everyone I talk to tells me they have breached contract and so did the lawyer, but I cannot find anyone to help me. I have all the files saved.

Now I hope this helps me get somewhere.

So, you're mad at UoP because you didnt qualify for enough in federal aid to go to school? Dont you think when you heard it was only 8300 dollars you should have investigated a little more or ask a question?

How is this UoPs fault? Help me understand.

Scam artists

Years ago I got fired from Disneyland and I was struggling to find a job. In filling out applications I had accidently signed up to get information on UOP. After many sweet surgar coated words I went in to see one of their financial counclers. The whole time reminding them that as of right then I did not have a job, nor did I know when I would have a job. It's okay they told me and said they would help me. They did do a very good job at helping me, helping me into deep debt. I was proud never having credit cards to rack up loads of debt. Then I had this *** idea for college. Making matters worse is when we were discussing this they made it sound like I'd be paying back one person; that is it. Also they explained none of the draw backs which would have had me bolting out the door. Goverment student loans you can never file bankrupsy for. Should anything happen godforbid your fed over. The other lie he told me was that durning my time at the college I would not be paying any intrest on my loans. What a crock of -. Then he went in on how low the intrest rates where. Yeah out of 122.23 a month on one payment 34 cents goes to inital loan the rest goes to interest. Where has this degree got me? Well no where except laughed out the door when I try to use it. Now days when applying I don't put I went to college. Do I feel anymore educated since going; nope. I know exactly the same as before I went. I went in for a Networking degree. All they did was define words you can find in a dictionary. There was no learning, there was no getting down to the nitty gritty. By the time I graduated I was wondering okay we already know about WAN, MAN and LAN but why haven't they taught us to set up one much less maintain it. All in all I borrowed 25,000 my loans are now past 36,000. I make only 9.60 an hour and I cannot find a better job other then this one no matter how cruddy the other job is.

Libby Bailey,

Your answers are all B.S.

You can't do anything to change.... besides trying to change the image of this worthless university.

Guest

All of the information that you claim was never disclosed is spelled out in the loan documentation (e.g. MPN) that you completed before even requesting the loan.

You cannot blame someone else for your own failure to review these documents before signing.

By the way, how could you logically expect to continue paying rent, utilities, phone bills, etc without incurring some debt?

Paid? It's the truth!

He/she is not lying. Your loan documentation spells out everything.

If you don't read the entire thing and make an informed decision, you have no one to blame but yourself. This school is a piece of *** and I would never go there or hire anyone who did, but blaming them for not reading your own loan contract is your own fault.

Withdrawn twice from class

I have been attending U of P and have been dropped from my math class twice unfairly. I asked to speak to my advisors supervisor in person and was told that I can't come down there and discuss this in person. I now get to pay for this class a third time, and because this pushes my graduation date past July I will have to apply for another PEL and/or possibly do another loan. As if they haven't made enough money off me! Approximately $1300.00 per class! I am beginning to wonder if this isn't something they do to make more money off of the students. I don't have time to go in to the details about why I was withdrawn but it was definately unfair!

UOP change the Human Services Program and they don't want to validate the classes that i took there.

University Of Phoenix change the Human Services Program and I have to pay the consequences of it. I am a student of University of Phoenix since 2011 on Campus program. Unfortunately, since the school decided to create a new program or redesigned it. I lost all the credits for the program of the classes I took there because they don't exist anymore. They charge me a lot of money for each class and now they are invalid. All of the classes that I took there were change, the school does not want to give me any credit for those classes. University of Phoenix wants to force me to take the new program. I waste my money and my time with them.

I was taking the Information Technology program and they changed it before I finished. I have five more classes to take and they still offer those classes but they wont allow the credits from the classes that they changed or dropped to be counted even though they were completed with a passing grade.

Im in the Phd program and have been informed by my advisor that I may not be able to complete my program because UoP is laying off the advisors in the doctorate programs. Has anyone else experienced this?

UOP is charging me for half a years tuition, went to school for around three months

I graduated high school and due to personal matters I was not able to attend college for a year. I tried to enroll in a community college but, by the time I could get the money to pay the year would have already started. So in my desperation I turned to the University Of Phoenix, which seemed very much like it was too good to be true. I had counselors who advised me, helped me out and checked up on me fairly frequently. They helped me through the financial aid process. One of my counselors even helped be through the financial aid quiz your given to make sure you understand the deal your making. I started classes, and was doing fairly well in them. I even thought that it was a good school where I didn't have to focus on the paperwork just the classwork. And a week before my next set of classes started I get a call saying that my financial aid wasn't processed. I am then told that I have to pay $2550 in six or seven days, my financial aid was going to cover a year of expenses $5100. Naturally, I do a bit of research into this my problem stemmed from the fact that my financial aid was chosen to be further examined at random. I was to submit some extra papers and a copy of my father's (whom I am dependant to) tax forms. I was told of this the day after I completed financial aid before I started classes. I submitted the extra information, I was asked about it again halfway through my classes saying that I have to resubmit the information, I do that again. I find out that the counselor who I did most of my work with has taken the entire month off, and I am back to having a week to pay half a years tuition. Not that I actually completed a quarter of the year because, I soon submitted a withdrawal. This is due to the fact that I couldn't pay that amount on such short notice. A week after I submit the withdrawal I get another call saying that I have to pay $2550. Now I am expecting a call from their collection agency, to make payment plans for something I didn't receive.

DO NOT RESPOND TO THIS SCAMMER!!! I had one of UoP's "Dispute Representative" recreate an account review over a year after I left-most of which was not accurate.

They will only do this so they can "justify" the debt to the collections company. The recruiters intentionally utilize ambiguous tactics because how else is this FOR PROFIT school going to make money? Is the recruiter with whom you signed up taking your calls? Returning your emails?

Still employed at UoP? PROBABLY NOT.

The only agency you owe is the LENDER or DEPT of EDUCATION, not this this *** school.

As for you Libby, go home and stop trolling this site. Deep down, you KNOW your organization is scammy too.

I agree with you I fell for this "formal grievance" thing that Libby told me about. So I did.

Within one hour after sending her my email she replied back to me and the collections company and then my work phone which I am not allowed to have personal phone calls on started ringing and the loan company would not leave me alone.

I was terminated from my job because of the constant calls. Libby turned my work number over to them and they still will not release my transcripts.

Thats what those for profit schools do, you are not the only one. In a documentary video called "college inc" discovers everything that for profit institutions don't want you to know.

This is the worst school I am encouraging all students to file a complain with the Department of Education complaint. The fraud in the finacial department is very unethical. I WOULD NOT recomment this school to veterans or Military personnel. Plears write to the DODIG and place your complaint in concerning the financial department at University Of Phoenix taking financial aid funds and billing you for the classes twice. This college is not crediable and is not military and veteran friendly. Too much Red Tape

Ill I've been trying to do is her SOMETHING in writing that will sum up my first years tuition's, etc. and it's been like pulling teeth! How dare they make a summation that perhaps I won't be able to handle the courses just because I won't commit to any orientation, etc. until I'm sure I'm going to be able to get the financing from my bank?!#%* It's a racket! The enrollment advisers must get commissions or something based on the new students they get into orientation. How hard is it tow type something up with estimated cost's? I can go to most ny other school and pull it right off their website! They've lost one student because of all the red tape...

I've talked to many other big schools, and one I was actually trying to sign up for... When really, it was like signing the papers for a mortgage. Yes, that many papers. I've quit after that, but they kept calling, I don't remember the name, but others have kept calling till they gave up, or I changed numbers. Phoenix, I thought would be different, only that finally comes the light and I see what Phoenix is really about. They don't want to tell you ANYTHING until you answer the question "Will you be applying TODAY?"

I've had regrets in my life, and I've actually lost things from it, I'm not losing half my life and racking up debt for a degree that can be used for scooping my dogs *** off the ground.

FOR EVERYONE, if you want real education, go to a real school. I'm doing just that. I've only did a few classes, and I'm calling it quits, and transferring.

Would I Redommend UOP?

While Director of HR for a Billion Dollar comapany in CA in the 1990s that paid tuition for all employees, many chose UOP. One of my direct report, who was highly skilled and talented, got a degree paid for by the company and still can't get an advanced job because of this worthless degree. I sat in on several training sessions for prospective instructors and observed two classes where the students were inept, inarticulate, unqualified for any advanced education, but who were passed to the next level. IT'S THE MONEY. THEY WANT YOUR MONEY AND STUDENT LOAN WHICH GUARANTEES THE MONEY. The Apollo Group (UOP) stock is DOWN by 67%. That means in the tank, underwater and struggling to breathe. Don't give them more oxygen by sigining up for their *** (Chronic Recurring Advertising Promotions) which will lead you to more debt and more revenue for them and no increased job opportunities. Employers have learned that UOP graduates can't perform and haven't learned much. If you are enrolled at UPO, drop out or get a written guarantee (WRITTEN AND MAILED TO YOU) That your degree will guarantee you get a better paying job at least equal to 50% of what the require for you to complete the degree within 2 years of completion. UOP won't do it! Save all emails you have because you may want to sue them later (as several students have).

I was tricked into a loan for classes I didn't take I was trying to get into the system to cancelled class and update my status to withdrawal. The recruiters lied refused to return phone calls and finally the loans were processed, 3 weeks passed the deadline allowed for class withdrawal. How can I resolve the issue for their illegal tactics? I also was told by the recruiter my classes would transfer if I was not satisfied with the University. I later found out this was not the truth. I was pressured by a counselor although I explained I could not afford to pay for college out of pocket. My credit was ruined due to the hard sell tactics and bad practices. I have added my name to several list for the class action lawsuit but can not find record.

University of Phoenix - Class Action Law Suit: Misuse of Title IV Funds and Accounting Practices

University of Phoenix - Class Action Law Suit: Misuse of Title IV Funds and Accounting Practices

I am a United States Marine on the Temporarily Disabled Retired List residing in Charlotte, NC. I qualified and received a federal student loan to pay for my University of Phoenix education. Coexisting with enrollment, I was contracted with Bank of America for the approximate loan amount of $9, 000.00 - $10, 000.00; a loan authorized under the Title IV federal student loan program. My financial agreement and obligations were designated and contracted to federal financial aid only. I am unable to finance education without federal assistance; if I was unable to pursue federal loan I would have not nor considered an education through University of Phoenix if put into the stipulation of a cash payment basis. According to Federal guidelines, University of Phoenix is entitled to a pro-rata share of tuition consequent to the amount of time I attended their online campus. This pro-rata sum was to be deducted from my federal loan that had been received by the University of Phoenix. Instead of accepting the payment from my federal loan, without consent, University of Phoenix improperly returned my federal loan monies, informing me that I was now responsible and obligated to pay any outstanding balance that the return of my federal loan had left on my University of Phoenix account.

I provided payment to the University of Phoenix in the form of a federal student Title IV loan which satisfied my contractual obligation to pay for the time I attended UOP. The University of Phoenix's actions extinguished my debt for the institutions own purposes without consent. All efforts by University of Phoenix to collect on the amount they paid off without consent is not based on contract, nor reflects any obligation that I have undertaken with the University of Phoenix.

University of Phoenix's action had no bearing or validation in interfering with my contract between my lenders. The actions by the institution Apollo Group and University of Phoenix to extinguish that debt without my consent gives them no legal or lawful entitlement to collect the funds directly from me. This has not only imposed a prerequisite that was not contracted or agreed upon, but an illegal attempt to convert a federal student Title IV loan owed to a third party lender, which provides certain privileges and rights; into a new and different debt owed to the University of Phoenix.

University of Phoenix now represented themselves that if I were not pay off the debt in full immediately; my account would be turned over to collections damaging my credit. My protest involves abuse with federal monies, breach of contract, false advertisement on University Accreditation, appalling enrollment tactics, breach of verbal agreements. This university has tainted any consumer protection provided to Civilians, United States Military Service Men and Woman by the American Government. There are numerous lawsuits and thousands of consumer complaints of this academic institutions practices; and it is time action be commenced on the behalf of American people who have been wronged.

This university has not only misconduct itself as a academic institution, but taken advantage of thousands of North Carolina Civilians and Military Service Men and Woman with false advertisement with hopes of a better future, but the whole American Public from coast to coast. I do not understand as serving this country in the Marine Corps; how our local state and federal governments could allow this leading high profiting university take advantage of us in this manner. There are thousands upon thousands complaints to consumer web sites, Department of Higher Education, Federal Trade Commission, and State Attorney Generals offices but yet action has to be taken against this institution and their unethical practices. Due to the enormous revenue generated by this organization, the company has become so powerful that it can manipulate political entities. One such entity is the Department of Education. If the Department of Education decided to perform due diligence and complete a rigorous audit of the companies accounting practices and uses of TITLE IV funding, the Department of Education would have no other choice than to strip the organization of TITLE IV funding. Matter of fact, the Department of Education could have used the organizations latest legal issue regarding religious discrimination (preference to Mormon's) as a basis to eliminate TITLE IV funding; however, as usual this body of government choose to look the other way. Furthermore, the organization continues to walk a thin line in complying with TITLE IV funding in addition to other compliance issues such as FERPA (Federal Education Rights Privacy Act) and DNC (Do not call) violations. Due to these ongoing compliance issues, the Department of Education could revoke its funding and strip the University of its Accreditation; however, the Department of Education much like many of its other political counterparts choose to ignore the problem by monitoring rather than enforcing.

So why does the Department of Education stand absentmindedly by and let the organization do as it pleases? There are three reasons for the Department of Education's "Hands Off" policy as it relates to Apollo Group, Inc and the University of Phoenix. Those reasons are as follows: 1) the power struggle between government entities and corporate America. The financial wealth of the organization has become so massive and powerful that it can and does influence the political institution that governs its behavior. 2) The power of money extends to its lobbyists, shareholders, and the political influence of those shareholders. The politically influential shareholders have a self-interest in the financial well-being of Apollo Group, Inc. I could list a number of politicians who hold Apollo Group, Inc. shares; however, I fear retribution if I were to name names. Here in North Carolina, I may even come up missing. Thus, those individuals will use that power to prevent any financial harm to the organization because it will impact their financial stake in the organization as well. 3) Due to the company being the largest private educational institution, the company has the largest number of students that could be negatively impacted. If the Department of Education decided to stop TITLE IV funding, chaos would ensue due to the mass exodus of students to other institutions. In addition, how does the Department of Education manage the funds previously and currently distributed to existing students? As a result of these concerns, the Department of Education has taken a "hand off", wait-and-see, monitoring approach rather than perform the duties expected of the organization such as enforcement. By far from taking advantage of military personnel, low and middle class civilians; this institution contains sky-scraping numbers in profit of tax payer's money through federal education programs in this economic downfall. I plead as a United States Marine and an American; please shoot the Phoenix down already; let the public be aware. Too many families and civilians have been hurt and mistreated and now is the time for action.

REMINDER TO INDIVDUALS ABOUT TO JOIN UNIVESIRTY OF PHOENIX: If you're not sure...Do not Start Class They can schedule you for class several weeks in advance and certify your Financial Aid before you accrue a bill. Why take chances? It is not them who will suffer if something goes sideways. Never sign a form called an "Authorization to Close" unless you know exactly what it means. You need to understand both the good and bad aspects of signing this form. University of Phoenix usually doesn't volunteer the possible negative side of issues. There will be those of you who will say you work for University of Phoenix and have not experienced any of this. Congratulations, that does not make what I have written less factual or the other thousand complaints listed in the Federal Trade Commission Data Base.

THE QUESTION OF ACCREDITATION: Apollo Group, Inc. educational institutions are not accredited at the same levels of other prestigious institutions for certain disciplines such as business degrees. Please check out the MBA program and its accrediting body. The university misleads students into believing that its MBA degree and other business degrees are on PAR with other institutions such as Harvard and others. For this alone, the University should be chastised by the Department of Education for using substandard business practices in the recruitment of its business students. This does not apply to only business students, but students in other programs such as Nursing, Counseling, and Education. Remember, INTEL dropped their affiliation with the university for some of these reasons and more.

All I can say is BUYER BEWARE.

HOW TO GET OUT AFTER YOU GET IN:

# 1: Ignore your financial, academic, and enrollment counselors. These individuals are trained and coached in sales strategies to discourage students from dropping out or transferring. Also, do not fall for the Financial Aid/Student Loan/Return to Lender scare tactic. These are strategies used to put fear into students in order to keep them in class and not to leave the institution. Another tactic is the two week break tactic. Counselor are trained and coached to keep students from not taking a break longer than two weeks. If a student takes a break longer than two weeks, the student is considered a t-drop [UOPX terminology] student which affects the performance matrix of the counselors. The performance matrix is a measure or device in which counselors are evaluated for raises. The matrix can be manipulated in several ways and often times done so by management. The intent of the matrix is to force a sales-based, pay for performance strategy at the university. The performance pay structure travels a thin line in being compliant with the Department of Education requirements for paying counselors. Again, the Department of Education has turned its head away from discouraging this practice and forcing the university to use another pay structure.

#2: Make sure your account is paid in full at the time you take your last class. DO NOT spend your financial aid money if you know that you will be leaving the school. If you have funds on account or received an excess check, DO NOT spend these funds either. THIS IS THE HOOK. If you do not have the ability to pay this back at the time that you quit, you will not be able to obtain financial aid at another institution or have your transcripts sent to another institution for evaluation to be admitted. If you owe money to any institution at Apollo Group, be prepared for a tumultuous journey of leaving the institution. You will continue to be harassed by all your counselors and at some point the collections department.

#3: Demand an Official Withdrawal Form and make sure to get confirmation that it has been submitted to University Services by any of your counselors. DO NOT violate any student code of conduct policy. Violating this code could prevent you from being accepted as a potential transfer student at another institution.

#4: DO NOT let them intimidate you.

SOLUTIONS:

DO NOT refer people to the institution. Prevent them from attending out of their best interest. Trust me when I say look for other institutions. Today, many traditional schools including junior colleges offer online classes that are convenient for all learners. In the past, Apollo Group, Inc. had a monopoly on the industry resulting in its rapid growth over the last 20 years. In addition, beware of other similar online institutions such as Grand Canyon University, Kaplan University, The Art Institute, and South University with the later two belonging to EDMC. EDMC current president is Todd Nelson. Mr. Nelson is the former president of Apollo Group, Inc. I recommend goggling Todd Nelson, University of Phoenix, and learn the history of his administration and the legal battles incurred under his administration prior to attending or working for any institution under the EDMC umbrella. Also, I would recommend goggling Brian Mueller, University of Phoenix, and Grand Canyon University too. Mr. Mueller replaced Mr. Nelson at Apollo Group, Inc. and recently left Apollo Group, Inc. to become the President of Grand Canyon University. Many former employee's of Apollo Group, Inc. now work at those institutions. I wonder why?

If you want a quality education from a respectable institution, search out those institutions that were brick and mortar schools that now have established online classes. A few examples of these types of schools to consider would be University of Texas, University of Tennessee, and the University of Nebraska-Omaha. You may need to meet a more stringent entrance requirement and be required to take a graduate entrance exam, but in the long-run you will definitely receive a better ROI (return on investment) on your education and institution.

I knew I should of denied them when they first called me. They always harassing me when I don't answer the phone.

When I first signed up I was lied to saying It will be $2,700 for the whole year, but it takes 5100 for two classes. That does not make sense and plus that took two loans out on me that I never signed up for, but they claimed I did during my financial aid sign up.

They want me to pay 22 dollars to I can keep my classes. :(

After seeing this I am really glad I am not the only one going through this. For one University Of Phoenix is a joke and really wished I would of further researched the school then signing up so quickly.

Last year I decided I wanted to go back to college unfortunately at the time I was traveling with my fiance. I had a few people on Facebook who attended UOP and never really said yes they liked it or no they did not so I decided to try it. WRONG CHOICE. Well the counselor was in such a hurry to get me started and called me almost every day with info or emailed me with anything I needed help with.

I filed for finical aid and it was approved so I was told. (and yes I am an *** and was over trusting) the day I was to start classes the counselor called and said there was an issue with my finical aid but not to worry about it and to start the course and it would be taken care or within the week. Well the week went up I called and called could not get anyone to speak with me or the would keep telling me Dorean stepped out she will call you back. Finally I just let it be and continued to do the course (which was a major joke a child could take the course and make an A).

Long story short my finical aid never actually approved and im stuck with a debt collection hounding me all for 1300 dollars. The sad part is I did not even get told it was being sent to debt collection.

Dear Students,

At University of Phoenix, we are always striving to innovate and improve access to higher education opportunities. We are constantly developing new technology and programs and exploring ways to deliver a better student experience.

From time to time, it is necessary for us to reevaluate our operations and make changes that help us better support our students. As the demand for classroom-based instruction has shifted in some markets, we will be making some changes to our local campuses and learning centers within selected geographic regions across the United States.

While some of our local campuses will be phased out, these changes will not impact you at your present location. University of Phoenix will continue to maintain a significant footprint across the nation, with 112 campuses or learning centers in 36 states, the District of Columbia and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico – including your home campus or learning center.

These changes allow us to reinvest and focus on cutting edge technologies and support that will provide you with better outcomes, most significantly through our growing suite of career services. We believe that career services should be a fully integrated piece of the academic journey, and that the right tools and guidance will make your education a more engaging experience that can connect to a meaningful career.

Each and every member of our faculty and staff is dedicated to making your education and experience at University of Phoenix as rewarding as possible, positioning you for greater achievements both in University program and the workplace. Your success is our most important metric in evaluating our own success.

I just found out a couple of days ago 10/12/12 about my issue with U of P they took my out of pocket money and now they are telling me I have 8 more classes I have to pay and the grant will not give me no more and I cap out my loans. I am so tired of these institution getting over on the people who want to advance in the world of educating themselves. I will not advise anyone to go to this college. Please read below and tell me how much longer they will stand and what does that mean to all the students that attend and the ones who have gotten a degree. Will it matter?

If you feel you need to speak to University leadership at any point during your transition, please call: (866) 992-****.

Sincerely,

Bill

I read all these stories and think of how similar they sound. How the financial guys would say one thing and then I'd get a bill or how they would never be available.

I also remember the high turnover rate, I would never speak to the same person twice. Anyhow a few years later here I am in debt (Stafford loans) and only a few credits away from my Bachelors.

I am going to this school and have been wondering where my money is going. Now I see this and now I am scared of their practices.

I also see that they have left everyone without a way to fight them, except a class action lawsuit where the lawyers get rich! There should be a law against what they are doing.

Semper Fi! I am a former Marine (1997-****) " According to Federal guidelines, University of Phoenix is entitled to a pro-rata share of tuition consequent to the amount of time I attended their online campus.

This pro-rata sum was to be deducted from my federal loan that had been received by the University of Phoenix.

Instead of accepting the payment from my federal loan, without consent, University of Phoenix improperly returned my federal loan monies, informing me that I was now responsible and obligated to pay any outstanding balance that the return of my federal loan had left on my University of Phoenix account" This exact scenario happened to me! I am going to continue reading your post now but I wanted to say you are not alone...in debt to UOP for $4000 because they sent my dispersment back...AND wasn't able to finish degree because I can't pay the $4000.

I am currently enrolled in the B.S. Business Mg mt Degree Program.

A friend and I started classes the same exact time had the same exact credit and they took 45 of mine and 48 credits of hers. She qualified for third level funding which means more money and I received 2nd level funding which means less student loans.

My EFC is 0 and they say that all my money went towards paying for 8 classes which I have only took 2 classes so far and they say I owe them money $21.00 which i know isn't much but I am single parent collecting Welfare Benefits at the moment because I can't find a job. I have all the emails stating everything and the correspondences from UOP.

I recently signed up with UOP and cant get my transcripts and they want me to sign a auth to close form, Im confused... Help

starling l

I was lied to by these people also, As a matter of fact everything they told me was nothing but a pack of lies. My question is why is it when I went to the BBB site there were no complaints against them?

If people have been done dirty by a company they should turn them in to the BBB so others can see whats going on.

It would have saved me a lot of headaches. my next step is to file a compliant there so maybe others will see it a look elsewhere for their schooling.

I also have been treated unfair by the University of phoenix. beginning 11/2011 when i was scheduled to received my second disbursement. On the day my disbursement was schedule to be deposited in my account, I was told i will not be receiving payment because my FASA application had not been renewed (Which was very questionable since i had just start attending the university June/2011).When i inquired about not being told and why a letter had not been sent home informing me about renewing my application i was told "oh, this is something you should have knew", but he suppose to be my financial advisor. After about two to three months i begin to notice how my assignment were not reflecting the syllabus,or evening the readings, and homework assignment are not being taught until the day the assignments are due. SCAM WE ARE PAYING THEM TO TEACH ARE SELF's. I paid 1,300 dollars to be taught US American History, and learned nothing but how Richard Nixon was no good, and how African Americans suffered from poverty( did i mention all the students in class were black). Now, as far as I'm concerned US History involves more then just Richard Nixon, and how African American suffered from poverty. The counselors don't care about their students only about the money they are getting from each student and here is a perfect example: I was scheduled for two math (algebra) courses (remind you i have not done math in years, since i was in high-school), I ask my counselor if I can push my algebra courses back two months to give me time to study and prepare (seek a tutor)prior to both classes. I conveyed to my counselor I don't want these two classes to be the reason my GPA drop. My accommodation was denied, and was referred to the center for mathematics excellence and to my success coach. After trying the Center for Mathematics excellence and three week after trying to meet with my success coach, i called my counselor back. At this point I'm already failing,I'm frustrated, stress, and overwhelmed. I express all concerns to my counselor about how the center for mathematics excellence is for visual learner not for auditory or read/write learner (still being ignored). at the end of the conversation he tells me "also by the way your failing the course and it looks like we may need to drop this course and have you take it again in two months. Also we need to stop your financial aid as well. In result to my counselor comment and actions taking it damage my confidence i felt like a failure, but after two days of crying, and reflecting i pulled through barley passing (D). Now I am on the boarding line of being on "Academic Probation" which suck because when i reached out for help before it had got to this point i was denied help. The success coach i had been trying to contact came to the last day of class and announced ignoring students due to one of her doctors resigning their position; what does her personal life have to do with providing student's services that we pay for? your guess is as good as mines. On-top of all this I am now being force to transfer to Oakland campus because SF campus will be closing effective July10th and just finding out June 2nd Via mail. In result of above event mentions caused me to start investigating the school (so far i found that the school does fraudulent actives, I have five active loans that I have not approved, i started attending school in June/2011, they started receiving fund on my be-half in April). Me and another class mate is currently seeking an attorney. We will like to do a class action sue against the University. If anyone have any recommendation, referrals, and or will like to join us please email:asmith@***.org

I too have prejudice concerns about the University of Phoenix. Most faculty members do practice "words play." Staff members are trained in addressing concerns indirectly.

Too much information for typing. If anybody know of a class action suit in progress, please let disgruntle people aware by providing information within this site. Have unfavorable experiences with the institution. Is there an e-mail address for people who which to participate in a class action suit.

The university does practice discrimination, in my opinion . :(

Rebeccmyers121@***.com. My monetary lost at the moment is 14,000. They kept changing the requirements for my major, and significantly increased my tuition when I decided to go online only.

Hello my name is Christy Elliott. The school allowed me to take a class pending me getting a B in my previous course.

Well I got a B- which dropped my GPA to a 2.95 so they withdrew me without speaking to me and now they want to charge me. They returned my FA/loans and are making me pay. To make it worse the class I completed and got the B- in was 5/7/19-6/17/19 and I receive VA Chapter 35 benefits and they sent the VA a certification saying that my enrollment was terminated for the 5/7/19 course which looks like to the VA I never completed that course. Now I have to appeal to the VA and prove I completed that class which will be a hassle but easy.

UOP is full of crap. They wont let me appeal my financial balance. I had no idea I was going to owe. They are a rip off.

My second class my professor disappeared for weeks and I had to report them.

We got a new professor and my academic advisor said several complaints came in. I saved all my emails and chat transcripts Christynance@***.com

University of Phoenix Claim Help please If someone has to move with three children to another state, with no money, no job and a mind full of abusive words in their head, how well do you think they can focus and I did that for about 15 months for as long as cold, holding myself and my mind together, passing my classes barely but, passing never the less. I had a mental break and ask for help and it fell on deaf ears.

How long is one expected to hold it together. All I did was ask for help like I was told when I entered into this so call place of higher education. Key words, “We are here to help you achieve your goals”! They did not!

They failed me. How is it that we live in a world where people can file lawsuits over things a frivolous as, “A spills hot coffee on himself and the fast food place is at fault”? But, how many other people have spilled that same cup of hot coffee on themselves and never filed a complaint, when I’m sure that fast food chain made the coffee the same way at the same temperature for years. Or a woman can slip and fall in store but, the fall was caused by her owe toddler and the store where she was shopping is at fault?

But I say that a University of higher education is and was negligent in providing me with a proper education now, it a hard problem to solve. I do find Fault with the University of Phoenix. It’s an online university and just because I had access to someone who was to be the instructor of my class doesn’t mean that was them on the other end of the computer. (John Doe) could have been anyone responding to my complaints, let’s be honest when you call the numbers back how often do you memorize the voice pattern of a number you don’t call often.

So if I call once in January then again in April, what are the chances that I’ll recognize that voice from January if my only objective was to have my question answered? At that point I’m only listing to and for that answers to solve my issues not the voice. Also if you go a research their classes, classes that where give to students for an AA Degree where also the same class for students obtaining a BA or Masters, how is that and why is that possible? Did I pick this school, yes I did.

My reason, as a stay at home mom I thought it be a good way to earn my degree as I was trying to transition out of a marriage. I was two classes away from graduating with my degree when I feel this school railroaded me in my time of need. I was lead to believe that school would help in my time of need, this school also led me to believe that they offered work study as they had partnership programs with several of companies as it was offered on their website. My work experience that I had prior didn’t transition over like my advisor stated.

I wasn’t given any of the leads that was offered, even when I applied for internships. Then I was placed on academic probation for plagiarizing a paper that I didn’t steal and denied my extension to properly finish my paper. When I was asked why I need an extension I explained to they why, “I was just leaving out of a verbally and physical abusive relationship. I had to move myself and three children’.

I was stress and overwhelm moving from Philadelphia to Florida it was a lot. The instructor told me that he would not help with extending my time, what I was going through had nothing to do with him, I should either turn in a paper or nothing at all, he stated either way that it sounded like I wasn’t going to pass his class since my grade was a D, and also I shouldn’t have called to interrupt his dinner. I called administration and explain it all to them how I was treated, could they give me the extension, and talk to the instructor. They said it was his call but, they would place me on probation since I never had an issues.

They failed me for this class, I was on probation for 60days, after my probation was up, I had to do a phone conference on why I should be let back in and why I needed to extend my paper once again. I told them the same story yet again, only to be told my domestic problems were mine and mine alone, which is a true statement but, this is a school who says their goal it to help you graduate. I didn’t graduate, I have no degree instead I was told I needed over $1400 to pay for the retaking of this class and had to take out another loan for two extra classes to graduate. I would have had the $1400.00 to pay for the class if they had issued my portion of the refund into my account on time but since they didn’t and my probation was now a problem, they help onto the money.

Which I would have gotten the refund with the other classes that I could have gotten loan money for but, only if I pay for the class I was placed on probation for in the first place. After that I was depressed that I went back to my abusive ex because, I felt I had nothing to fall back on not even an education. How was I, a single mom going to make it with three children and only a high school diploma, I needed something to secure a future and a wider listing of job to apply for. Now, let’s be honest one can say having a degree is no grantee that you will find a job in the field of your degree but, having a degree opens up a longer list of jobs you can apply for than you not having a degree.

My degree I was going for was in Business Administration and Management, starting salaries $40,000 to 55,000 and higher with raises and depending on the state you live in. That could have been my yearly earnings income not working part-time jobs at $12.00, 30 hours a week. I’m sur the next question to be asked, have I tried attending another school? Yes I have, I enrolled in Polk State College for Administration and coding classes, went through all my paperwork, had my class schedule, even went to two of my classes.

I was proud, happy, and excited only to have it shot down the next day when I went to the student bookstore. There it was stated there was a problem with my student aide. The school stated to me I couldn’t get funding since I used have of my loan funding on another school and I didn’t get a degree, I was told if I left the school in the early stage of stating the program that funding would be easier to get. What was embarrassing I had my daughter with me at the time and she had to sit and listen to a Rep tell me I had leave school and watch the disappointed look on my face.

All I want is to have these loans taken away and finish school, I need my degree in the same manner as to which fish need water. Is The University of Phoenix responsible for my life choices no they are not but, they were responsible for making sure I was provide an education, providing the tools for me to do so. Who’s to what my life would or could be right now if only that had given me the opportunity to present my paper properly and given me that extension. If someone has to move with three children to another state, with no money, no job and a mind full of abusive words in their head, how well do you think they can focus and I did that for about 15 months for as long as cold, holding myself and my mind together, passing my classes barely but, passing never the less.

I had a mental break and ask for help and it fell on deaf ears. How long is one expected to hold it together. All I did was ask for help like I was told when I entered into this so call place of higher education. Key words, “We are here to help you achieve your goals”!

They did not! They failed me.

In 2006 I took 2 blocks of online classes and now i supposedly own over $7000 in student loans that I bever approved or signed for. I still have the master promissory note unsigned because it said atudent loan.

I at the time was a single mother of 2 boys, living on $350.00 a mo. I asked if there were grants and scholarships i qualified for and i was miss lead. I was also told by the enrollment person books were included in the classes it wasnt until I started my 3rd block that I supposedly owed $63 for books than it turned into owing 120 for book and thats alot when 350 is all i made. So i was kicked out for that and now suddenly right after they said I owed 3000.00 and now its over $7000.

For a loan i never asked for or approved for. They lied to me and i think they pushed a loan through without my approval. I would like to join this. I missed the last one Oregon vs UOP.

Hoping for the best.

I also saved most of the correspondences from then. Email reniebambie@***.com

I have my Associates degree, Bachelors degree in business management and have started my MBA with University of Phoenix. During the MBA program I was treated very poorly and was told by a math instructor that my work I had done was plagiarized.

The instructor was always very discouraging and degrading to me on my private messenger. He would tell me I wasn't good and eventually accused me of turning in work that was not my own. I had done a fantastic job on an assignment and he said that I couldn't have done that good on my own. I complained to UOP and they told me that the instructors were allowed to grade how ever they saw fit and they all had different standards.

I asked the instructor to give me new numbers and I would do just as good and prove to him that I had in fact done that work on my own. He said he had even ran my paper through a plagiarizer check and that I was all copied. He even said that I had gotten the work from a UOP system that instructors use. If this had been true then he is obligated to report me officially and I would have to go through a process for doing such a thing.

Well just based on his own opinion, he failed me, dropped my GPA and I was kicked out of the MBA program for my GPA dropping. The University then said that I owed them for the remaining courses in the program even though I never got to take the courses. They are holding my transcripts and have sent me letters from a collections lawyer. Then they sent me a letter wanting to settle for a lower amount.

I honestly done even know that I would be able to transfer my credits to another college and after all my work, I feel so belittled and regret even going to UOP for me schooling. For those who say we went to UOP for student loans and not intending to finish is bull. I had every intention to get my MBA and have a career. I did not use the school for money nor am I interested in suing just to get my loans paid off.

I would like to enter in a class action law suit and hope that this school pays for how they have treated students . My email is tashajolene@***.com Please keep my informed on this!

I had the same issue, had a professor tell me my work was plagiarized, when I stated it was unfinished. I asked for more time on my paper and it was denied. The professor was rude and nasty and i needed more time because I was going through domestic problems.

I am a victim of the predatory lending scam to feed the fat cats at the online campus what a joke I wish I had never been suckered in. If anyone has any information on what I can do to get the 63,000 dollars I owe dismissed let me know randyroo17@***.com

Gladly join any cause, petition or lawsuit making UoP be responsible for the education it offers, and the validity of the degree (s).
