Univ. of Phoenix, lied about grant approval
Nov 30, 2008
University Of Phoenix complaint by JennW
Be wary of promise of grant approval and having to wait for the official forms to come back. I was told by a very sympathetic counselor I was approved for a grant and I would see the final approval form a few days after I started class. He said I needed to start class soon becasue it would be a few months before that class was available again. I could not imagine him lying since I repeatedly told him I could not afford class without the grant. I had no problems with the instructors and got good grades.

HOWEVER, I was in my second class before I was told my grant was denied. I had requested the information before, and was promised it was all okay the paperwork would be in soon. I had to call and email them several times a day for over a week to get real information on the grant. Only after speaking to a supervisor was I told that my grant had never been approved and they knew about it be fore I took my first class. They wanted a few thousand dollars right then. Thank goodness I had saved all my emails where the counselor had told me my grant was approved.

After they reviewed the counselors' emails I was told I would not have to pay them and I could drop out. However, it has been 2 years and they still call me every few months to ask me to re-enroll.
